Every year, the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People marks the anniversary of United Nations Resolution 181. This 1947 resolution advocated for the partition of Palestine into two states, only one of which has ever been created.
Join us on Thursday, November 28th at 5.30pm AEDT, on the eve of this important occasion, for an on-the-ground
update from two of our oldest partner organisations:
-
MA'AN Development Center in Palestine: Sami Khader and Kristy Shammas.
-
Palestinian Women's Humanitarian Organisation (PWHO) in Lebanon: Nadine Hamade and Wissam Khalili.

We'll also be marking a year of extraordinary solidarity by Australian unionists with the Palestinian people. On October 17, 2023 we launched our first Gaza Emergency Appeal which raised over $1million for the relief efforts of MA'AN. Exactly a year later, as the devastation spread to Lebanon, we relaunched our appeal to include the relief works of PWHO. At this webinar, representatives of both MA'AN and PWHO will provide an on-the-ground account of the situation they’re facing on the ground as well as giving an update on what they've been able to achieve with the funds raised in Australia through our appeals.

Petition Reason
Indiscriminate attacks on civilians violate international humanitarian law and our common humanity. !.We condemn both the deadly Hamas attacks on 1,200 civilians 2.and the Israeli Government on the bombing of Palestinian Territory, the pitiless targeting of refugee camps, schools, hospitals and the civilian population leading to the deaths of currently 41,000 men, women and children. Cutting off water, electricity, food and fuel has created an unprecedented humanitarian crisis in Gaza, on top of the 16-year blockade. 3.In response to the long-term impact of the violence and collective trauma on the hearts and souls of both Israel and Palestine, and to the calls from our suffering Palestinian brothers and sisters of all faiths and the Patriarchs and Heads of Churches in Jerusalem, we ask the Australian House of Representatives to take unified action on this awful situation:
Petition Request
We therefore ask the House to request the Australian government 1. To continue working for: • a permanent ceasefire in Gaza • the immediate release of all captives and hostages, both Israeli and Palestinian • the observance of international law and an easing of tensions in the Middle East 2. To take further meaningful action to sanction the State of Israel in the light of the International Court of Justice’s judgement of 19th July 2024, that Israel's occupation of Gaza and the West Bank (including East Jerusalem) is illegal. 3. To take action against companies that are profiting from Israel's occupation of Palestine or are assisting the war through the supply of weapons, by withdrawing contracts and investments.
THURSDAY 31 OCTOBER IS THE FINAL DAY!!!
