Centenary event and Book Launch: Comrades! Lives of Australian Communists

SEARCH is organising a number of events marking the founding of the Communist Party of Australia on 30 October 1920.

For the centenary date itself, Friday 30 October, register here to join us at 6pm for the commemorative celebration of the centenary.

This one-hour online event to mark the Party’s founding will include an interview with historian Stuart Macintyre, who is working on his second volume of the CPA history, and the launch of the new book Comrades! Lives of Australian Communists, which contains biographies of 100 communists and their activist contributions over many decades. We will send further details about the book, including a full list of biographies included in it, and how you can buy it, as soon as possible.

Guests include

•    The Reds author Stuart Macintyre
•    Meredith Burgmann to launch Comrades!
•    Bob Boughton, co-editor of Comrades!
•    A toast to be moved by a veteran CPA member.

Our other events are in final stages of planning, and we will post registration links for our online conference of six one-hour sessions on Saturday 31 October, 9am to 5pm, co-hosted by SEARCH and the NSW State Library.

We will inform you of other “Red Film Festival” Friday-night film screening dates as soon as they are available. The next film Red Matildas is on Friday 23rd October at 630pm AEDT.

You can help spread the word about the Centenary celebrations by forwarding this link or by sharing our events, which are available on the Events tab on the SEARCH Facebook page.
