Perth, we're coming to talk democratic ecological socialism!
For the first time since the COVID pandemic, we're holding an in-person education roundtable in Perth, on Saturday 3 August from 9:30am to 4pm at a venue in central Perth.
We'll spend the day learning from each other, facillitated by SEARCH volunteers and staff, covering topics chosen by the participants themselves -so we need you to register you interest early so we can ask about your prefered topics and structure of the day. We follow a 'Freirean' democratic model of education, where we learn from each other and encourage everyone to share their views and experiences in a safe, comradely and non-sectarian socialist space.
As a guide to discussion topics, in previous education sessions we have focused on: how to advance the cause of democratic ecological socialism in the contemporary Australian context; the history of socialist movements internationally and in Australia; what is the SEARCH Foundation and how you can participate in it; how to effectively organise and connect with other socialists across party, movement and geographic divides; what is 'democratic ecological socialism' and how is it relevant to current struggles?; discussion of historical examples of successful alliance building, such as the Green Bans, and what we can learn from them; the international solidarity and anti-nuclear movements in Australia...and many other topics.
This session is open to SEARCH members and supporters, however space is limited so we ask that you register ASAP. The sessions are geared towards current and new organisers and activists across the labour movement, but veterans are welcome to join as well.
We also ask participants to contribute $10 to help with the cost of putting on the session - however nobody will be turned away if that cost prevents you from attending. You can bring $10 on the day in cash, or we can make arrangements to collect it from you online. Once you're registered we'll sort that out via email.
