Red Matildas is a 1985 documentary about three women, Audrey Blake, Joan Goodwin and May Pennefather, who were among those fighting fascism, poverty and inequality in depression-era Australia. Resonating deeply with today’s social upheavals, economic hardship and conflicts in Europe and the Middle East, the film invites new generations to rediscover the passion and conviction of women who refused to remain silent.
However, to reach contemporary audiences, it needs to be restored and redistributed using up-to-date technologies. Once it is restored, SEARCH hopes to organise screenings and promotions of the film.
With the support of SEARCH Foundation as a partner organisation, the project — Red Matildas, a restoration for the digital age — has been approved by Documentary Australia.
This approval means that donations to the project over $2 are tax deductible! So please consider donating even a small amount.

Already 40% of the $25,000 needed to restore the film has been raised. Those interested in donating to support the restoration of this award winning and irreplaceable film can learn more here:
