About the speakers

Dr Jim Stanford is a leading Canadian labour economist, researcher and educator, well-known in Australia having worked here, most recently for several years as Economist and Director of the Centre for Future Work. Jim received his Ph.D. in Economics from the New School for Social Research in New York. He also holds an M.Phil. from Cambridge University, and a B.A. (Hons.) from the University of Calgary. Jim advises unions and progressive movements on how to fight back against neoliberal economic agendas, has written six books and dozens of scholarly and popular articles, and is a gifted speaker and presenter of economic, social and political ideas.

Bhaskar Sunkara is the founder of Jacobin Magazine and president of The Nation, based in New York and now widely read internationally. Bhaskar is one of North America’s best-known democratic-socialist publicists, writers and activists. He writes for Jacobin, The Nation and is the author of The Socialist Manifesto (2019).
