“Astounding Silences: Emergencies with no Response”
The SEARCH Feminist Network held a very successful forum titled “Astounding Silences: Emergencies with no Response” on Sunday 9 October in Sydney on the current political policy silences and lack of action in regard to domestic violence, pay equity, industrial organising and other issues that directly impact women and men in contemporary society.
Over 30 people attended and heard a broad range of speakers address the silences in their particular areas to help us refine and sharpen our analysis about the current social and economic situation of women. The five speakers included women activists from union, domestic violence, refugees, Young Labor Left, pay equity and women’s health organisations and movements.
SEARCH Feminist Network members will publish a special edition of the Discussion Bulletin based on the Forum, summarizing the presentations, discussions and reflections at the event, key outcomes and follow-up actions.
